Westmoreland Milk Glass

We were very fortunate to find a piece of Westmoreland milk glass that has the Westmoreland mark imprinted on the bottom.

Here’s some information we found regarding Westmoreland marks:

Westmoreland WG Mark
According to Lorraine Kovar in her book, The Westmoreland Story, the mark with intertwined "W" and "G" was used after the 1940s. However, just because a piece has this mark doesn't mean it dates from this period: Westmoreland molds have been passed along to other glass makers who are not always diligent about removing the mark.

Westmoreland Grossman Mark
In 1981, David Grossman bought Westmoreland. He devised a new mark with the word "WESTMORELAND" in a circle around three vertical bars that apparently represent a stylized "W." Production ended in early 1984.

Westmoreland used paper labels on much of their glass, but these can be misleading as rolls of stickers were available long after production ended.

The piece below is marked with the first mark, the intertwined “W” and “G”.

This Westmoreland milk glass ruffled compote is in excellent vintage condition. It features a diamond cut pattern, also known as English hobnail, with a ruffled top.

This compote is marked Westmoreland on the bottom which means it was probably produced in the 1950s or 1960s. The mark is imprinted in the glass (not a sticker).

In addition to the information above found at David Doty’s Carnival Glass Website, we also found the following information regarding Westmoreland glass:

Westmoreland Glass Company
Westmoreland molds have been sold to other glass makers over the years who did not always remove the mark so dating can be difficult. However, most late milk glass pieces with this mark were indeed produced by Westmoreland during the 1950s and '60s--Pamela Wiggins.

This super cute compote would make an excellent addition to your existing milk glass collection. Thinking of starting a milk glass collection, this would make a great starter piece.

Love Those Vintage Patterns

We love vintage sewing patterns and have been buying them when we see them! Here are two we just added to our shop!

Make a split skirt, which is actually shorts, and a lined vest with this Simplicity 8059 pattern.

simplicity pattern 8059simplicity pattern 8059

The pattern is from 1992. How cute!

Remember shoulder pads?

mccall's pattern 3199mccalls pattern 3199

Well, this pattern includes them and also includes instructions for a shirt jacket, a vest, a blouse, a skirt and pants. This one is McCall’s 3199, dated 1987.

They are both in excellent vintage condition. Both patterns are uncut and factory folded, and both include instruction sheets in great condition. The envelope flaps are intact on both pattern envelopes. There are some wrinkles, some folds, and a few small tears on the envelopes, but overall, they are in excellent vintage condition.

We have several more patterns to add to our shop and will be doing that in the next few days.

If there is a particular pattern you are searching for, let us know. We may be able to locate it for you. You can send us an email at rattydaddydinkdum@gmail.com. You can also send us a message by visiting our shop on Etsy at http://www.etsy.com/shop/rattydaddydinkdum?ref=si_shop. Click on Contact over on the left side of the page in the Shop Owner section.
